HCS pupils to sit GCSE Russian for first time

GCSE Russian at HCS

Hereford Cathedral School pupils will sit GCSE Russian for the first time ever this summer.

For those HCS linguists who have shown dedication and a love of languages, the MFL department is able to offer a two-year fast-track GCSE course in Russian.

Mrs Bird, who is a teacher of German and Russian, is putting our group of 10 pupils who are from Years 10 to 13 through their paces as they get to grips with a new alphabet and an unfamiliar way of spelling - unlike anything they've experienced before.

Two of the 10 will sit their Russian GCSE this summer with the remaining eight taking the exam next year.

The very best of luck to them all, or should we say 'удачи'.
