At the Junior School, we place great emphasis on sport and physical activity. We believe them to be important elements of a well-rounded education, providing enormous benefits. Apart from developing health and fitness, children develop self-esteem, self-confidence, discipline and respect, both as individuals and as part of a team and at a level appropriate to each individual.

In Games, the boys and girls are taught separately, working with qualified and experienced coaches. Boys play rugby, football and cricket with the girls playing hockey, netball and rounders. We also offer swimming and some experience of athletics, cross-country and tennis.

In PE, the children develop a wide range of skills as well as experiencing new activities. Indoor athletics takes place as well as opportunities to try things such as basketball, tchoukball and health-related fitness.

There is an extensive fixture list where all children have an opportunity to represent the School during their time at the Junior School, whatever their ability. The older, more able children will have the chance to represent the school at county, regional and national levels in a wide range of sports, with regular success. The School House competitions take place in all the major games with all of the children enjoying the close competition this brings.

We hope that sport at the Junior School creates an environment where the children can learn and develop skills but ultimately enjoy participating in sport now and for years to come.
