Communication & Language

This is a broad area of learning covering Listening & Attention, Understanding and Speaking. Children are encouraged to listen attentively in a range of situations, listening to stories, anticipating key events and responding with relevant comments and questions. Giving plenty of time and opportunity for children to talk through their thoughts and opinions is really important! By doing this they clarify their understanding and start to develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas and events.

With our small class sizes and high pupil to staff ratios, our pupils have plenty of speaking opportunities and we love hearing their imaginative contributions to our discussions. We particularly enjoy retelling stories through role play where the children are encouraged to use their imaginations, be expressive and develop wonderful vocabulary.
