Payroll/Finance Clerk

Location: Hereford   
Description: Full time or part, all year round
Salary: 13-15 (£20,785 - £21,914) FTE
Hereford Cathedral School is seeking to appoint a Payroll/Finance Clerk to provide a professional and high-quality support service to the Accounts department. Payroll Experience is required for this role to prepare monthly payroll for over 200 staff, both salaried and hourly paid. Including administration for a number of pension schemes, including Teachers Pension scheme. Reconciliation of control accounts and posting payroll journal. Completion of any payroll surveys. Answering payroll queries.
 
Other tasks will be determined depending on the candidate and hours, but may include;
•    posting and reconciling credit card statements, and maintaining supportive paperwork
•    Petty cash administration and reconciliation.
•    Any balance sheet or fee reconciliations as required by the accountant.
•    Managing the school trip finance and administration for the school, including the trip payment system. Reconciling accounts for trips once they have taken place and ensuring trips are fully settled.
•    Assisting with school fee billing as necessary
•    Helping to administer the collection of fees using School Fee Plan
•    Assisting with the administration of Nursery Education Funding
•    Assisting the accountant and accounts supervisor as required

It is essential for the Payroll/Finance Clerk to have previous experience payroll and working within a finance department. Proficiency of IT skills are required in Microsoft Office and an aptitude for picking up bespoke accounting platforms. Within a busy office environment, you must be able to show good work ethic and attention to detail with an organised work manner, working collaboratively within a small team.

Head of Modern Languages
(Teacher of French and Spanish)

September 2022
Location: Hereford
Description: Full time and permanent


Hereford Cathedral School seeks to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Head of MFL with the ability to teach French to A-Level and, ideally, Spanish to GCSE (although this is not essential, KS3 Spanish experience is sufficient). The successful candidate will set the vision and direction for the department and be responsible for ensuring that our curriculum is aligned to excellence to A Level and beyond.


This is a role for a teacher wishing to take the next step in their career as well as an experienced teacher/HoD already, who can lead a team of committed and talented teachers, as well as inspire the next generations of linguists. Leadership experience is not essential, but applicants must be able to demonstrate the skills required to lead a department.

  • Who is an outstanding teacher of MFL
  • Who can lead and line-manage the team of four qualified teachers and two FLAs
  • With a passion for languages who understands their importance and is able to inspire and motivate our pupils
  • Who will interpret data and tracking to ensure that all pupils make necessary progress
  • Who is keen to ensure the MFL trips programme continues and thrives
  • Who is willing to provide co-curricular opportunities for pupils to discover language and culture
  • Who will take responsibility for the quality of MFL provision, teaching, curriculum and assessment
  • Who is able to oversee the MFL exam schedule and facilitate the necessary speaking exams – mocks and public exams
  • Who can keep up-to-date with the changes from exam boards, specifications and government guidance, and who can communicate these effectively to the team
  • Who is keen to offer outreach opportunities with languages
  • Who will liaise with the Head of French in our Junior School to ensure a smooth and coherent transition for the new intake

Chemistry Technician (Maternity Cover) 

February 2022 

Location: Hereford   

Description: 35 hours per week - 8.30am to 4.00pm. Part time working may be considered. 
                        Term time (36 weeks per year)
Salary: Starting at FTE £19,247. This equates to £14,760 for work pattern detailed above. 

Hereford Cathedral School seeks to appoint a Science Technician (Chemistry) to cover Maternity leave from February 2022. We are looking for a skilled technician to assist the Head of Chemistry and teachers in the organisation, preparation and maintenance of resources and equipment for the chemistry department.

Our Science technicians:
•    Work primarily to the individual sciences but collegiately to help the Science department as required.
•    Provide all the required technical support to enable laboratories to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedure and Health and Safety (H&S) guidelines.
•    Supervise stock control, order of materials and oversee the department materials and budget in consultation with Head of Chemistry.

We are looking for someone with good knowledge of the subject and the ability to form excellent working relationships. A willingness to support and ability to remain calm under pressure are essential criteria for this post.

Head of Futures 

Location: Hereford

Description: 35 hours a week, term time plus 2 weeks (38 weeks per year). A part-time work pattern may be considered.

Salary: Starting salary £20,480 for the work pattern detailed below. Point 21-24 on the support salary scale (£25,300 - £26,994).

Mindful of the dynamic post-18 and employment landscape, the successful candidate would be able to support pupils in their plans for university in the UK, US or around the world, degree apprenticeships, and employment.

The successful candidate would work across the whole School from ages 3-18 to embed an exciting programme to help pupils look towards preparing for the future. The post holder will help tutors and teachers to deliver this programme and advise senior leaders on relevant programmes and policy.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience of, and insights into, the world of work and the business and professional landscape, perhaps with a background in recruitment;

Minibus Driver 

Location: Hereford

Description: 10 hours per week over 5 days. 6.30am-8.30am

or 20 hours and 6.30am-8.30 am 3.30pm -5.30pm

Term-time only (36 weeks)

Salary: 10 hours per week - £16,023 per annum pro rata. This equates to £3,511.

Salary: 20 hours per week - £16,023 per annum pro rata. This equates to £7,022.

We are looking to appoint a skilled School Minibus Driver to join our transport department.

All drivers of the school minibuses must:

Be over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes)
Have held a category B licence for at least 2 years.
Have a D1 entitlement on their licence.
Undergo a minibus driving assessment and must successfully pass this test to be employed.
Ensure the emotional and physical welfare of the pupils in their care in line with Hereford Cathedral School Child Protection Guidelines
Duties shall include the following:

To safely transport pupils and staff from one location to another ensuring that all Road Traffic Act Legislation is adhered to.
To maintain good customer relations with parents and schools and contribute to a positive atmosphere on the minibus.
Carry out daily and weekly vehicle checks on minibus i.e. oil level, fuel, water etc.
