A record year for County Primary Schools Football Tournament

Football

A record of over 400 children from 43 schools took part in Hereford Cathedral Junior School's recent County Primary School Football Tournament at Wyeside.

Split into nine groups, there were lots of closely fought games, with many of the groups being decided by goal difference and lots of smaller schools competing well.

In the main Cup competition for the leading 16 qualifiers, the smaller village primary schools performed brilliantly up against some of the largest schools in the county. Orleton, who had been a dominant force throughout the day, defeated Staunton in their semi final, while holders HCJS were defeated on penalties by Ledbury. In the final, Ledbury played with real credit but were unable to withstand Orleton who, thanks to a solitary goal, claimed the title.

In the Plate competition, Stoke Prior defeated Weobley on penalties, whilst in the Bowl, St Joseph’s Ross overcame Shobdon. The Shield was won by St Paul’s B team who beat a gallant Eardisley side, whilst the Trophy was won by Bridstow.
