Pupils in Year 6 were inspired by three presentations by the winners of the Senior School’s Year 9 Peter Prior Prize science competition last week.

Daisy F, who was the overall competition winner, delivered an excellent presentation of her project, entitled: ‘Prions: Zombies of the Infectious Disease World’.

Second prize-winner, Grace P, spoke passionately about her study of Gregor Mendel – who was known as ‘The Father of Genetics’.

Lara LL, who placed third in the competition, gave a fascinating presentation of her project, which posed the question: ‘Could we evolve into superhumans?’

The presentations were a chance to really bring science alive to our Year 6 pupils. Daisy, Grace and Lara also encouraged their audience to enter the three HCS Biology Week competitions, open to all HCS pupils in years 5-13:

📷 WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER of the YEAR: Closing date 11 November.
🦠 BIOCRAFT COMPETITION: Create a biology-inspired 3-D artwork from recycled, or other, materials. Closing date 6 November.
🌊 OCEAN HEALTH CHALLENGE: Design a way to stop plastic from entering the oceans. Submit your project by 30 November.

Many thanks to Daisy, Grace and Lara, and good luck to all our Biology Week competition entrants in year 5&6 – something to keep you entertained during half term!
