Our approach to Sixth Form education extends far beyond academic achievement. It’s about preparing students for the real world with a comprehensive set of skills and experiences to allow them to thrive.
The HCS Diploma sits alongside our students’ academic studies to develop character and skills both in and out of the classroom, helping them to become fulfilled and valued citizens. Each student embarks upon a two-year HCS Diploma course, a formally recognised qualification, accredited by the University of Buckingham, which forms part of the ‘drop down’ menu for our students to include in their UCAS applications.
Real-World Readiness
Through the HCS Diploma, students are equipped with essential life skills, from mastering interview techniques and navigating difficult conversations to understanding basic car mechanics and managing personal finances. We offer practical workshops and engaging sessions to help students develop the confidence and competence needed to thrive in any future endeavour.
Deepening Knowledge
The Diploma programme encourages our students to extend their knowledge beyond the confines of traditional academics. With the freedom to explore their own interests, students undertake projects in areas of their choosing, whether it’s learning a new language on Duolingo, attaining a refereeing certification, pursuing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, or delving into an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). By empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey, we foster a culture of curiosity and self-discovery that extends far beyond the classroom.
Broadening Horizons
In the Sixth Form, we believe in broadening horizons and nurturing cultural and personal growth. Through curated reading lists, students are encouraged to explore diverse perspectives and expand their intellectual horizons. Alternatively, they can immerse themselves in music, drama, and other creative arts, developing new levels of cultural appreciation and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Leadership & Service
We believe in the importance of giving back to the community and cultivating a spirit of service among our students. Through work experience, paid or voluntary roles, students have the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world settings while making a positive impact in their local community.
Our Volunteering Programme sees many of our Year 12 students working weekly in a local city primary school to support younger pupils with reading, maths, music, art and sport. This truly rewarding experience has a positive impact for everyone involved.
Whether it’s mentoring younger students, volunteering at local charities, or organising community events, our students emerge as compassionate leaders committed to making a difference in the world.
