Two stars of stage and screen caused quite a stir in Hereford Cathedral School library last week, when they made an impromptu visit to a school event.
Members of the School’s art and book clubs got a shock when film star Imelda Staunton and her husband Jim Carter walked in to their book launch last week. The pair had been in Hereford for a charity lunch at the Castle House Hotel when HCS librarian Mrs Adamson spotted them in the street and asked them to come along to the launch.

The event was to launch the book that HCS Art Club and Book Club members have been collaborating on over recent weeks, with each section being written by a different Book Club member, with an Art Club member providing the illustrations. The project had been overseen by local illustrator Iain Welch. Harry Potter star Staunton, and Downton actor Carter, both showed great interest in the project and asked the pupils lots of questions about the book. They then signed autographs and posed for photographs.
Speaking of the book project, organiser and HCS librarian Mrs Nelson commented: “I am very proud of how it went from discussions and ideas flying around in Book Club, to fully fledged stories, and then they were combined with some wonderful art work. All of which was done in ‘spare time’, around lessons and all the other activities that keep our pupils so busy. The pupils really enjoyed working with Iain who inspired and guided in a fun and lighthearted way.”
