Yesterday’s Hereford Cathedral School Sports Day at the Leisure Centre was a spectacular event, filled with thrilling events and record-breaking performances.
In rather windy and chilly conditions for July, students, teachers and parents gathered in a celebration of athleticism, sportsmanship and community spirit.
For the first time ever, highlights from the day’s events were live streamed, thanks to the newly formed HCS Tech Team. Working in collaboration with Bubble Production, the team shared some of the track and field events as they happened. The live stream included expert commentary from Mr Abbott, bringing the excitement and energy of Sports Day to viewers at home.
This year’s Sports Day was particularly notable for the number of new school records set by pupils across various events:
Year 7 Boys:
Javelin: Rocco W stunned the crowd with a throw of 27.99 metres, setting a new school record.
High Jump: Finn G soared to new heights, clearing 1.28 metres and securing his place in the School’s record books.
Year 8 Boys:
Shot Put: Jamie P demonstrated exceptional strength with a throw of 9.80 metres, breaking his own record from 2023.
Year 8 Girls:
300 metres: Florence B sprinted to a record time of 45.2 seconds.
Relay 4×100 metres: Cornwall House team blazed through the relay with a record time of 1:00.42, demonstrating impeccable teamwork.
Inter 1500 metres:
Issy N delivered a phenomenal performance, completing the 1500m in 5:05.26, setting a new benchmark for the School.
Esme B threw 11m 13cm in the shotput, smashing her own record from last year.
Inter Boys
Rafi W set a new school record by completing the 800m in 2:06:81s
Despite strong performances from all houses, Stuart House emerged as the overall winner with a total of 748 points. The final scores were as follows:
Stuart: 748 points

Somerset: 633 points
