It is with immense sadness that we announce that Rear Admiral Philip Wilcocks, Hereford Cathedral School Chair of Governors, has passed away.
Philip has been a great servant to the School since joining the Board in Autumn 2015. He became Chair in 2017, guiding the governing body through times of immense change. Philip provided wise counsel to former Headmaster, Mr Paul Smith, throughout the pandemic and went on to be a huge support to Dr Michael Gray in his first years of headship at the School.
Dr Gray said: ‘Characteristic of his life of public service, Philip’s commitment to Hereford Cathedral School was immense. His wisdom, strategic acumen, and leadership qualities were exemplary. Few people understood the pressures of leadership better than Philip, and his support and friendship both to me and my predecessor, Paul Smith, were both cherished and valued in equal measure. Philip was a great man whose legacy will live on for many generations.’
Our deepest sympathies go out to Philip’s wife, Kym, and their family. He will be greatly missed.
Christian Morgan-Jones, Vice Chair of Governors, will become Acting Chair of Governors until a permanent Chair is appointed.
