Dr Rhodes' physics outreach programme praised in The Week

Dr Simon Rhodes

Hereford Cathedral School physics teacher Dr Simon Rhodes’s outstanding outreach work has been featured in The Week UK’s Independent Schools Guide over the weekend.

The guide is printed twice a year and features interviews with leading figures about emerging trends in education.

The article in The Week’s Independent Schools Guide highlights the benefits of partnerships between independent and state schools, places the spotlight on Dr Rhodes’ outstanding physics outreach programme, which he delivers to primary school children across Herefordshire.

In the article, Dr Rhodes says: “I wanted to teach pupils, and their teachers, how they could use everyday objects to bring physics to life in the classroom.

“They now know, for example, how a gherkin can be turned into a lightbulb and why their hair stands on end when they rub a balloon on it,” he adds.

HCS Headmaster Mr Smith said: "Our collaboration with state schools reflects our deep commitment to the local community and I am delighted that our staff and pupils are able to continue to support under-resourced subjects, sharing their expertise across the county and beyond."

The feature came about as a result of Dr Rhodes’s TES award shortlisting, which caught The Week’s eye earlier in the year.

Congratulations, Dr Rhodes!
