A busy Easter break for Hereford Cathedral School Boat Club

Boat Club

Report by HCS Head of Rowing, Mr Ben Wellburn

The Easter break was a busy time for Hereford Cathedral School Boat Club. There were multiple training camps, with the Year 9s making enormous progress. On the away camp, we saw some great teamwork in action with our seniors helping coach the younger athletes. With the camp geared towards preparation for both GB Junior Spring Regatta, and the Junior Inter-Regional Finals, morale was high.

Over the final weekend of the break, we had 17 athletes in five crews racing at the Junior Inter-Regional Finals representing the West Midlands. This was the largest ever cohort of athletes that Hereford Cathedral School has out forward to represent the Midlands, and the J15 boys won their event by nine seconds.

Some unfortunate circumstances lead to the J15 girls not being able to race, but the result they achieved later in the day would have put them well into the top six crews - impressive stuff!

The J16 quad, who have been coming on enormously over the past few weeks placed 5th, well done to them. Lizzie U, Abi U and Emily W all fought off terrible conditions to get up to the start line, and then raced absolutely incredibly.

We are so proud of the enthusiasm, development and teamwork our crews had at the event, congratulations to all involved.
