At Hereford Cathedral Junior School, we believe sport is essential to every young person’s all-round development, not only boosting their health and fitness but teaching the qualities of self-esteem, self-confidence, discipline and respect that will serve them through the rest of their time at HCS and into adult life.

Sport is a highlight of the weekly timetable. In Games, our experienced coaches offer dedicated training across the sports of rugby, hockey, football, netball and cricket, We also offer opportunities in cross country athletics and swimming, where our Pre Prep swim once a week  In PE, we help children develop their skills and attitude, introducing them to everything from indoor athletics and health-related fitness to basketball, handball and badminton.

The children love that we use video recording technology to capture and replay footage of them participating in sports. It allows them to review and improve their technique and performance with detailed feedback from their teachers.

We believe participation is more important than ability, with an extensive fixture list giving every child the opportunity to represent the School – while the older, more able players are supported when competing at county, regional and even national level. Meanwhile, the regular School House competitions foster a healthy sense of competition and underline the importance of teamwork.
