Hereford Cathedral School’s recent production of Sister Act at The Courtyard was nothing short of spectacular! From 12-15 February, the stage was alive with dazzling performances, toe-tapping tunes, and the kind of infectious enthusiasm that had audiences grinning from ear to ear.

Onstage, the cast threw themselves into their roles, belting out Alan Menken’s uplifting score with passion and flair. The chemistry between performers was electric, and their hard work paid off as they brought the story to life with humour, heart, and heaps of energy. A particular highlight was the choreography, provided by SJ Matthews of the Hereford Academy of Dance.

Backstage, an army of students kept the show running smoothly – managing quick costume changes, quick-changing radio microphones, shifting sets, and making sure every prop was in the right place at the right time.

Meanwhile, down in the orchestra pit, the student band, alongside a number of professional musicians, tackled the demanding score like pros. From disco anthems to soulful ballads, they kept the energy high and made sure every note hit just right.

Director of Drama and show Director, Mr Martin, commented: “We couldn’t be prouder of the nearly 100 students who were involved in Sister Act. Their talent, tenacity and discipline was in evidence across production week, and we were so thrilled to see the show get better and tighter every night. The whole enterprise was made even more challenging by having two principal casts, but they didn’t miss a beat. It was particularly thrilling to see how those actors who shared roles learned from each other without ever just copying the other’s performance; they took real ownership and made the character their own. There were a significant number of cast, crew and musicians from whom this will be their last production with us, and we are so grateful for everything they have given the Drama and Music departments in their time at HCS.”

Putting on Sister Act was no easy feat, but the challenge only made the experience more rewarding. Whether acting, playing, or working behind the scenes, everyone involved walked away with unforgettable memories, stronger friendships, and a huge sense of achievement.

HCS will return to The Courtyard in February 2026 for another One Night Only concert. We can’t wait!
