Hereford Cathedral was alive with festive cheer on Wednesday this week, as pupils from Hereford Cathedral Junior School presented their annual Celebration of Christmas. The evening featured a delightful mix of music, readings, and joyful performances that captured the spirit of the season.
The event opened with a warm welcome from Mrs Hoffmann. The Junior School choir started with a stirring rendition of Who Am I?, featuring a solo by Eliza M, with the cathedral lit by lanterns.
Musical highlights of the evening included The Shepherd Rock, which the children sang with animated enthusiasm. Later, the energy was infectious as the performers, donning Santa hats, gave a lively rendition of Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
There were also fantastic readings from Oliver AN, Joseph J, Seraphina W, Eva-Mae P, Scarlett T, Aria F-B, Seth A with Jed S and Edward M.
The event concluded on a high note, with a blessing from the Reverend James Pacey.
The Celebration of Christmas was a testament to the talent and enthusiasm of Hereford Cathedral Junior School’s pupils and staff, especially Head of Music Miss Toolan. Many thanks to Mr Preece and Mr Jones who accompanied the children on the piano and drums, respectively.
Headteacher Mrs Hoffmann commented: “The performance from all the children was nothing short of impressive. The readers delivered their prose and poetry with great clarity and were so engaging. The children’s ability to sing in harmony, with such a wide range of pieces was stunning. Nobody will forget those first voices breaking the silence in the dark of the cathedral nave, nor the happiness of the final number with Santa hats on every head! Miss Toolan and her musical team should be truly proud of this brilliant Christmas concert!”
