What do parents say about our Nursery and Reception Classes?

Many children join us in Nursery and Reception. We are proud of our Early Years Department and all that we offer the children.

You may have read my article ‘What do new parents have to say about our School’, which included the thoughts and experiences of new parents of children in Years 3-6. However, if you are considering HCJS for your child from the outset of their education, you may well be interested to hear the views of parents with children in Nursery and Reception. Well here they are – the uncut and unedited comments from parents:

Parents of a girl who joined us in Nursery

Hereford Cathedral Junior School Nursery welcomed our daughter with such warmth when she started at 3 years old. She quickly settled and has learnt so much over the last year. The best part is how much fun they all have together. Our daughter looks forward to going, and I can honestly say we haven’t had a morning when she doesn’t want to go in…I think that says it all!

Parents of a boy who joined us in Nursery

We have been attending Nursery at HCJS since the term after our son's 3rd birthday. He is happy to see his friends every morning and hasn’t shown a reluctance to go but instead has been very excited to choose his toy to take in. We are kept in the loop fairly well with his willingness to share what he has been up to from his letters and numbers to library, a particular favourite of his, to tennis! Our son has progressed in so many ways, we are so proud of him and we welcome all that Reception has to offer in September!

My husband and I could not feel happier. We are both busy working parents and it was very important to us that we found a nursery that our daughter would enjoy and HCJS Nursery is  definitely that! She looks forward to it every day, and we are reassured with the knowledge that she is thriving in a wonderful pre-school environment. I think we are also very pleased with all the small things that happen daily in the Nursery, of which our daughter isn’t really aware, but are very important in preparing her for Reception, and it is this balance of structure and freedom that we feel HCJS Nursery does particularly well. Finally, all the Nursery staff are extremely supportive of the children, and of the parents(!), that it begins to feel like an extended family and it all feels very natural!

Parents of a girl who joined us in Reception

Joining Reception was exciting for our daughter and nerve-wracking for us. It was not just a new school but we had only recently moved to the area so our daughter joining HCJS was part of a big change for the whole family. From our first meeting to be shown around the school, through the taster day to the first day of school, we felt totally happy that we had a made a good choice for her with HCJS. Dropping her off (invariably late) at the Moat and seeing her run in happy, the progress she has made over the year and the friendships developing has been lovely to see.  We are hugely grateful to the excellent Reception teachers and really enjoying seeing our daughter and all the other Reception children flourishing.

Parents of a girl who joined us in Reception

Our daughter started Reception at the start of September. We had not experienced the HCJS Pre-Prep before, as our son started in Year 4 - so this was a whole new journey for us.
From the settling in afternoon, we found our daughter’s mind was put at ease as was ours. The first day was full of anticipation, the atmosphere as we walked into the class room was welcoming and there was a positive buzz in the air.
Our daughter loved her new school from the very first day and continues to do so.
The Reception teachers have been more than we could hope for.
Our little girl is still being nurtured whilst being shown how to be independent in the next chapter of her young life.  We have had constant contact from our daughter’s teacher with regular updates and meetings about her progression and if certain ways are not working for her, they will find a way that encourages her enthusiasm for learning. This is paramount for us and for her continued happiness at the Cathedral School.
