Over three days at half term, 12 Hereford Cathedral School cadets and one cadet instructor from the CCF RAF Section took part in a three-day residential leadership camp.
The objective was to qualify cadets in the Bronze and Silver levels of the Leadership elements of the RAF Air Cadet training syllabus. After a day in the classroom, with lectures, discussion and theory tests, two days were spent outside in some challenging weather and in the sports hall. Activities in those locations consisted of command tasks, which tested an individual cadet’s ability to brief a team and to lead them in the completion of tasks such as constructing bridges to move casualties over lakes of shark-infested custard!
In the evening, the cadets delivered presentations on individuals who have inspired them, these ranged from world figures through family members to Peppa Pig as a leader! We also visited Shobdon Airfield and were given the opportunity to clamber over some of the resident helicopters.
All cadets passed the courses successfully, some with very high scores, and will have learned about leadership and about themselves as leaders. This knowledge will be useful to them well beyond the CCF.
