Having seen 10 of our students accepted into the National Youth Theatre (NYT) in the last two years, 20 talented students from Years 9 to 13 recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in a dynamic workshop and audition with the prestigious company. Led by experienced professional actors and directors, Lauren O’Rourke and Harry Gould, the session provided an inspiring  experience for all involved.

The workshop, designed to develop key performance skills, was packed with engaging activities that encouraged creativity, teamwork and confidence. Students took part in energetic warm-ups, improvisation exercises and ensemble work, all aimed at helping them refine their imagination and storytelling abilities. Both Lauren and Harry brought infectious enthusiasm and expert guidance, ensuring that every participant felt encouraged and challenged.

Following the workshop, students had the chance to perform prepared monologues as part of their audition for the NYT, a highly respected organisation known for launching the careers of many renowned actors such as Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig and Matt Smith. This was a thrilling opportunity for the aspiring performers, who showcased their skills with great passion and dedication. Whether they were performing monologues, engaging in devised scenes, or demonstrating their improvisational talents, each student gave their all.

The day was a resounding success, leaving participants feeling inspired and motivated. Many students expressed how the experience boosted their confidence in their instinctive choices and deepened their love for theatre. Regardless of the audition outcomes, the workshop provided invaluable skills and unforgettable memories.

A huge thank you to Lauren, Harry and the National Youth Theatre for an unforgettable experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on these young performers.
