Hereford Cathedral School Year 8 pupil Ryan P is definitely one to look out for on the football field, following an impressive recent performance with the Midlands U13 Independent Schools Football Association team.
After a series of trials in the autumn term, Ryan was selected for the Midlands ISFA squad – only the third Hereford Cathedral School pupil ever to be chosen. The regional ISFA teams battled it out at the recent football festival at Shrewsbury School.
The Midlands U13 team, managed by HCS Head of Football Mr James and Hereford Cathedral Junior School Head of PE and Games Mr Turpin, were the strongest squad at the festival and enjoyed victories against Herts and Essex (1-0), South East (2-0), North West (3-1), South West (5-0), South Central (5-0) and a 1-1 draw against London.
After the festival, players were selected for final trials for U14 national squads, where an ‘A’ team was picked along with two parallel ‘B’ teams. Ryan’s performances in central defence saw him selected for the ‘A’ team and he has since been selected for the U14 national squad to attend a three-day camp at Oakham School in August, where he will play against professional academy sides. Only 18 boys have made the main squad and for Ryan to have been chosen is a fantastic achievement.
The ISFA pathway is an excellent one and Ryan can look forward to many opportunities next season.
