We have a diverse community of international students aged 13 to 19 who join us from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and beyond. Our overseas pupils make up an important part of our school community, bringing with them cultural perspectives, languages, and experiences that enrich the learning environment of all our students.
ACHIEVING ACADEMIC SUCCESS
At HCS, our commitment to supporting our international students in their academic pursuits is unwavering. From pre-GCSE and GCSE courses to A-Levels, our caring and supportive teachers ensure each student receives the specialist guidance they need to achieve their potential.
Alongside their studies, each pupil receives weekly EAL (English as an Additional Language) lessons to equip them with the language skills they need for their future success. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results in their IELTS examinations, laying a solid foundation for their university applications.
Our academic outcomes speak for themselves with students achieving A-Level results well above the national averages, often winning them places at Oxbridge, G5 and other Russell Group universities including Imperial College, UCL, King’s College London, Sheffield and Bristol.
SETTLING IN
From day one, we make sure that every pupil joining us from overseas feels safe and secure in their new surroundings. We arrange airport transfers and have a buddy system in place to ensure they are well looked after as they settle into life at HCS.
Our boarding house remains open during half term holidays, so students feel relaxed in their new home throughout the term and enjoy trips, activities and downtime with their fellow students. While most overseas students choose to live in our boarding house, some prefer to live in a homestay with a local family. More details on how to apply for a homestay place are available from our International Admissions team.
A BRIGHT FUTURE
Just like our day pupils, we ensure our international boarders leave us ready and equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing world. In Years 12 & 13, the HCS Diploma allows students to explore everything from interview techniques and how to handle difficult conversations to developing human and digital resilience, managing personal finances and student cookery.
Our Futures Department helps students to navigate their post-18 pathways, making sure they receive the support they need to meet their future aspirations. All international students receive guidance from our expert team on the university application process including mock interviews and personalised, one-to-one support for both UK and global university pathways.
