Hundreds of children from Herefordshire Primary Schools gathered in the Cathedral on 3 December to sing in the Hereford Cathedral School’s Combined Carols service.

HCS welcomed St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, Gorsley Goffs Primary School, Bishop Hooper Primary School, Mordiford Primary School and The Hereford Academy who joined Hereford Cathedral School’s junior and senior choirs as part of the music outreach programme.

The children sang a selection of traditional hymns and carols to create a beautiful service which was recorded to bring festive joy to the Herefordshire community (watch below). There were also prayers and readings from Headmaster, Dr Michael Gray, Dean of Hereford, Rev Canon Sarah Brown, and pupils from the visiting schools.

Director of Music, Mr David Evans, was delighted to be able to bring the county’s schools together again for this high profile service: “It’s been lovely to be able to invite a number of primary school choirs to come and join us in the Cathedral again this year for the joint outreach carol service. The recording, which was very well timed before restrictions, involved a large number of children who thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gave so much.

“My thanks to them, to their teachers and their families and to my colleagues for enabling this to take place. Likewise our sincere thanks to all of our choirs here at Hereford Cathedral School, to Peter Dyke, the assistant organist and the Dean, Rev Canon Sarah Brown, for their support and involvement. I hope you will enjoy listening to this years service.”
