Six months of learning dance steps, song lyrics and lines will finally come to fruition this week, as Hereford Cathedral School’s production of Chicago hits the stage at The Courtyard.
Just a handful of tickets remain for the three-night run of the ‘Teen Edition’ of Kander and Ebb’s deliciously dark musical extravaganza, from 15-17 February. Audiences will be treated to the production’s signature numbers, including ‘And All That Jazz’, ‘When You’re Good to Mama’ and ‘Razzle Dazzle’ as the story of Chicago unfolds. The original wide-eyed wannabe, Roxie Hart, will do anything to be as famous as her idol, the vaudevillian, Velma Kelly. But will her desire for fame and fortune be her downfall?
This follows the School’s acclaimed productions of Macbeth (2022), Oliver! (2019) and Fiddler on the Roof (2016).

Speaking earlier this week, Director and Head of Drama, Mr Martin, commented: “It has been a really exciting week so far at The Courtyard, preparing for our much-anticipated production of Chicago! The cast, crew and band have been working incredibly hard and with good humour to knit each of the various components of the production together. It’s such a treat seeing the show – and the pupils – really start to blossom. We really cannot wait to share this with you. A handful of tickets are still available, and we’d love to see you there, so you can see the amazing work that our students are doing.”
Year 13 pupil, Ellie P (top left), who will be starring in the principal role of Roxie Hart in Wednesday and Friday night’s shows, said: “It feels amazing to get on the stage after months of work. Seeing all of the elements of the musical come together has been so exciting!”
Headmaster, Dr Gray, added: “We are all tremendously excited about the School’s production of Chicago and know that considerable amounts of work have gone into its preparation. We wish all of those involved – both on and off the stage – the very best of luck.”
