Physical Development

Physical Development includes moving and handling, as well as health and self-care. To nurture these important aspects of the children’s development, we encourage the children from day one to become more independent, to be aware of the importance of physical exercise, a balanced diet and ways to keep safe.

On joining the Junior School, pupils will enjoy activities designed to help them develop their control and coordination. In particular, we ensure they have experiences of ‘crossing the midline’ where they use both hands and both sides of the brain simultaneously.

As well as PE, movement and swimming lessons, the children take part in a whole range of activities to improve large and small gross motor skills, develop their handling of equipment and tools, and strengthen their hand muscles.
