Library Assistant 

January 2022 

Location: Hereford
Description: 2 days (16 hours per week), term time (36 weeks)

Hereford Cathedral School seeks to appoint a Library Assistant to support the development and promotion of the library within the school and ensure the provision of an effective resource and information service to all pupils and staff.

General responsibilities:

  • To supervise pupils and run the library during the pupil’s lunch break and after school. 
  • To undertake the training and supervision of pupil assistants and monitors in
  • appropriate library tasks
  • Assist in planning and overseeing the management and organisation of the Library
  • Process, organise, promote and maintain all of the library stock
  • Ensure equal access and an equality of opportunity for all pupils and staff
  • Optimise the use of IT.
  • Lead user education sessions when required in both how to use the Library and all
  • equipment. Participation with the teaching staff in the planning and development of
  • the school’s curriculum delivery, information skills, language policy and programmes
  • Ensure a high standard of display and promotional material to enhance the
  • appearance of the library
  • To assist at Library events, after school if required
  • To cover for the Librarian where necessary
  • Guidance and assistance to pupils and teachers
  • Help enter all new student’s details onto the library Management System for each new
  • academic year

Any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of duties and
responsibilities of the posts as defined. Hereford Cathedral School has a well-established and thriving extra-curricular programme, and the successful applicant will be expected to play an active part in this.

Facilities Co-ordinator and Driver

Hereford Cathedral School are looking to appoint a Transport and Facilities department administrator to work in our busy department and to drive pupils to school each morning during term time. 

Location: Hereford (City Centre)
Salary: Point 6-8 (£16,834 - £17,963) Starting salary £13,985 for the work pattern detailed below
Description:  35 hours a week – Term time (36 weeks per year)   

Occasional evening and weekend overtime will be required.

The core purpose of this role is to provide effective support to the Facilities Manager. 

The key accountabilities for the role will be: 
•    To drive pupils to school every morning.
•    To co-ordinate the Transport Operation of HCS and track all departments’ transport needs
•    Liaise with parents to ensure any transport issues are dealt with appropriately and in a timely fashion
•    To assist with ensuring as far as practicable that all HCS vehicles comply with UK legislation
•    To assist with internal and external users’ facilities bookings and hiring arrangements
•    Liaise with facilities staff to ensure all room setups are accomplished in appropriate manner

Full UK Driving Licence is required for the post. Willingness to gain the D1 category driving licence within a reasonable time scale.

Food Service Assistant 

Location: Hereford 
Description:  25 hours per week over 5 days and occasional evening and weekend work. Term-time plus two weeks (38 weeks)
Salary: £16,834 per annum pro rata. This equates to £9,733. (£9.25 per hour)

Hereford Cathedral School are looking to appoint a Food Service Assistant to work in our busy catering department.

The core purpose of this role is to provide effective support to the Catering Manager through the ability to prepare food to a high standard, serve food to staff and pupils and maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.

Essential skills for this role are:
•    The ability to deliver excellent customer service
•    Ability to cope with periods of pressure and prioritise workload accordingly, meeting all deadlines 
•    Naturally demonstrates a ‘can do’ helpful attitude
•    Ability to work and communicate effectively as a member of a team
•    Able to work flexibly, some earlier starts, evenings and weekends will be required in support of wider school functions from time to time
•    Some knowledge of Health and Safety procedures in a catering environment
•    Some knowledge of food preparation and cooking skills

Minibus Driver 

Location: Hereford

Description: 10 hours per week over 5 days. 6.30am-8.30am

or 20 hours and 6.30am-8.30 am 3.30pm -5.30pm

Term-time only (36 weeks)

Salary: 10 hours per week - £16,023 per annum pro rata. This equates to £3,511.

Salary: 20 hours per week - £16,023 per annum pro rata. This equates to £7,022.

We are looking to appoint a skilled School Minibus Driver to join our transport department.

All drivers of the school minibuses must:

Be over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes)
Have held a category B licence for at least 2 years.
Have a D1 entitlement on their licence.
Undergo a minibus driving assessment and must successfully pass this test to be employed.
Ensure the emotional and physical welfare of the pupils in their care in line with Hereford Cathedral School Child Protection Guidelines
Duties shall include the following:

To safely transport pupils and staff from one location to another ensuring that all Road Traffic Act Legislation is adhered to.
To maintain good customer relations with parents and schools and contribute to a positive atmosphere on the minibus.
Carry out daily and weekly vehicle checks on minibus i.e. oil level, fuel, water etc.
